Record Halloween haul this year |
Forgot to mention—consider this a bonus Deep Dark Secret—I use Sun In. Not only am I not a completely natural blonde, but that stuff is supposed to be so bad for your hair.
What do people mean by that anyway, bad for your hair? Hair is dead cells, so in what sense is something bad for a dead thing? It has no nerves or soul. It will grow out, people. If it was burning my scalp, that would be a different issue.
Having spent a full seventeen days averting my eyes from any form of news media, I did finally, gingerly, flip through the headlines of mid-November. It was kinda like holding your breath and peeking under the bandage of some grotesque wound.
I survived the experience, but I’d still much rather think about other things. Like how we’re on break from school for the first time since we started the year!
Actually, if it’s good for man to contemplate his latter end, last week was particularly edifying. First, sadly, a good friend’s brother-in-law passed away suddenly. And then Jason’s 102-year-old grandfather passed away.
{Jason: Pap died.
Me: Oh—was it unexpected?
Jason: He was 102…}
The eulogy at the memorial was refreshingly truthful—describing a man I actually recognized as the man we knew. A good man, a blessed man, a faithful saint; a man who was buried with his well-worn Bible still in his hands.
Lizzy, who does not use Sun-In. That would be so bad for her hair. |
We have this whole week off from school. Yesterday (Monday), I felt accomplished as soon as I opened my eyes.
Goal #1: Sleep in. Check.
Other goals for the week include fun reading (I just started a new murder mystery and I also checked out a book billed as “the beach read to end all beach reads,” so that sounds enjoyable if not seasonal), wearing comfy clothes, and online Christmas shopping.
Happy Thanksgiving!
