As I'm running about a month behind in my newspaper reading (I'm at the point where it's more accurate to call it "reading the recent history" than "reading the news"), it's appropriate now to mention a lovely trip I took five weeks ago...
wherein Ada and I traveled west, and our dear friends traveled east, and we met in the middle for a girls' weekend.
We stayed in a hotel room all together, where there was much giggling, braiding of hair, and splashing in the indoor pool.
We went out for pizza and played near the river and poked around a quirky bookshop.
Also played in a nearby children's museum. |
Notwithstanding the fact that our car was burglarized in the parking garage (!), we had a great time.
[Our best guess is that I didn't actually lock the car, as there was no damage to doors or windows. My toll money was missing (around $20 in change), but more than that, the car and everything in it was torn apart and thrown around. Every pocket, the glove compartment, Ada's bag of school work, the kids' cubbies in the back seat: all dumped and strewn wildly about. Even the hidden trapdoor on the floor of the van had been opened and emptied. It was unnerving and confusing and felt very violating. But it was also a good opportunity to clean out the car--and to rejoice that worse was not done.]
