Time

And since all this loveliness cannot be Heaven, I know in my heart it is June.

~Abba Woolson

Alas and alack, however; it is no longer June, that best month of all.

No disparagement on July, of course, smack in the middle of summer that it is (which is the best of all possible seasons).

It’s just the passage of Time that July 1 signifies, the inability to hold onto the fleeting glories of this life.  As June has slipped away, so will July and August…and before you know it we’re in the middle of endless FebruMarch again.

I haven’t posted much this summer because my energy has been fully diverted to doing puzzles, playing Wordscapes, and reading novels.

Or is it that continual leisure is suppressing my physical and mental energies?

Either way, you should see the books and puzzles I’m cranking out.

My own body bears evidence of the slow scourge of time.  Things hurt more easily.  I’m stiffer than I used to be.  There’s unfortunate bulging and sagging.

If this was all there is, what panic would follow these reminders of Time’s relentless march.

But for God’s people, that relentless march is marching straight to our eternal home, where “no good thing is destroyed,” as the elder saints in The Last Battle explain.

“That was not the real Narnia.  That had a beginning and an end.  It was only a shadow or a copy of the real Narnia…You need not mourn over Narnia, Lucy.  All of the old Narnia that mattered, all the dear creatures, have been drawn into the real Narnia through the Door.”

The things of this earth that matter—including but not limited to:  energy without pain, loveliness, rest—do not end when the lights are extinguished here.  Rather, that is when the Door will open to eternal, endless, glorious June.

…knowing that you have for yourselves a better possession and a lasting one.
~Hebrews 10:34
