Halloween at the cabin

We woke to another gorgeous sunrise.

Sunday afternoon was spent in games and serious lounging.

Halloween dawned overcast and foggy.

It was also our first school/work day, so out came our boxed-up supplies.  We used the huge, glass-covered dining table as home base for school, next to the comforting fireplace.

The kids scattered to do their independent work.  Caleb found a relatively dry spot in the fog to do his math.

Jason generally used the cathedral-ceilinged living room on the other side of the fireplace for his office, which was also a good place to cozy up near him and read.

Caleb tried to look sad and woeful here, but it’s hard to pity a child being made to copy a whopping three sentences in such surroundings.

Our research told us that if we went into town Halloween night, we could find a Halloweenfest downtown with candy, games, costuming, etc….and, no doubt, crowds and traffic.  Jason offered the kids the alternative of letting them each pick their favorite candy at the grocery store and trick-or-treating each other in various rooms of our cabin.

Our intelligent offspring saw the wisdom of this plan (“More candy and no Tootsie Rolls!”), to my relief.
