But first, a fancy overnight on the town with Ada and Annya. |
We go to our beach house in the evening and played Hedbanz while dining on homemade quesadillas.
Jeddy was pretty stumped by “car wash”…and again when we had him do “nude beach.” |
Liz was also stumped by “Darth Vader.” |
Jason guessed “Elvis” before Caleb got “meatball.” |
In the morning we could look out the window and see just how beachfront we were; there was hardly any sand between us and the surf at high tide.
OBX being only about half a mile wide, it was an easy walk to the Duck boardwalk along the sound side.
The next morning I woke to this out my bedroom window:
Not so bad. |
Unlike at home, snacks during school were more or less ongoing, so at lunchtime we had time to play a few rounds of Rummikub.
And after school a few kids were willing to come back with me to the boardwalk.
We could not figure out what this creature was. It was clearly mammalian, with a face like an otter or beaver, but I was sure I saw a rat-like tail. |
When he climbed out, we realized he was a muskrat, or more likely a nutria {which sounds like a diet snack bar but is actually an animal}. |
Apparently they’re considered invasive pests, but he was so cute! Especially when he washed his face with his lit’le paws! |
