This year’s Advent being as short as it can possibly be, technically I guess the Christmas season (with apologies to the liturgical calendar) is shorter than usual; but I find that I really enjoy the “dead week” between Thanksgiving and the first Sunday of Advent. It feels like bonus time to sneak in a bunch of Christmas shopping before scheduled festivities ramp up.
Plus I feel more justified in not getting my Christmas decorations up right away.
Anyway, it was more important to me to welcome my college student home a bit early for his Thanksgiving week off, thereby exposing us all to whatever dreaded dorm germ it was he brought with him, than to spring right back after Thanksgiving with health and energy to hang up the wreaths.
Now that I’ve recovered from said dorm germ—and it’s the first week of Advent—I’ll have to come up with a better excuse than “it’s below 60º” to continue putting off decking my (exterior) halls.
