New Year’s

Ada asked to have a few friends over to spend the night on New Year’s like last year, which somehow morphed into Jed and Ada having 15 of their best friends come over.

We provided games and space and a few snacks, and they rang in 2024 with Uno, Taboo, and sparkling cider. The dear kids included Liz and Caleb in their games, cleaned up after themselves, and thanked us on their way out.

An unclear number of girls spent the night—I did ask for a head count in case the house went up in flames overnight (it seemed like a good thing to do)—and Ada looked around and counted, but seeing as it was 12:30am at the time, I don’t have much long-term memory of what that number was.

The next morning I opened my eyes at 11:15 (!) and all the friends were gone, the house was tidy, and there was leftover cinnamon French toast for me.

I’m so deeply grateful that these types of kids are the ones my kids are friends with.

Happy 2024!
