Singing through the Psalms, part V

Part IPart IIPart IIIPart IV.

Part V is another especially rich section for modern music!

Psalm 103:1-2, 8:  "Bless the LORD, O my soul, / And all that is within me, bless His holy name. / Bless the LORD, O my soul, / And forget none of His benefits...The LORD is compassionate and gracious, / Slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness."

You're rich in love
And You're slow to anger
Your name is great
And Your heart is kind
For all Your goodness
I will keep on singing
Ten thousand reasons
For my heart to find

Bless the Lord oh my soul
Oh my soul
Worship His holy name

Bless the Lord, O my soul
And all that is within me
Bless His holy name

Psalm 103:12:  "As far as the east is from the west, / So far has He removed our transgressions from us."

I know You've cast my sin as far
As the east is from the west...
Jesus, can you show me just how far the east is from the west?...
You know just how far the east is from the west
From one scarred hand to the other

Psalm 103:20-22:  "Bless the LORD, you His angels, / Mighty in strength, who perform His word, / Obeying the voice of His word! / Bless the LORD, all you His hosts, / You who serve Him, doing His will. / Bless the LORD, all you works of His, / In all places of His dominion; / Bless the LORD, O my soul!"

Praise God from Whom all blessings flow
Praise Him all creatures here below
Praise Him above ye heavenly host
Praise Father Son and Holy Ghost
Amen

Psalm 104:1, 24, 29-31, 34:  "Bless the LORD, O my soul! / O LORD my God, You are very great...O LORD, how many are Your works! / In wisdom You have made them all; / The earth is full of Your possessions...You take away their spirit, they expire / And return to their dust. / You send forth Your Spirit, they are created; / And You renew the face of the ground. / Let the glory of the LORD endure forever; / Let the LORD be glad in His works...Let my meditation be pleasing to Him; / As for me, I shall be glad in the LORD."

Lord send out Your Spirit
And renew the face of the earth

Bless the Lord, oh my soul.
Oh Lord, my God, You are great indeed.
How manifold are Your works, oh Lord!
The earth is full of Your creatures.

If You take away their breath, oh Lord,
They die and return to their dust.
When You send forth Your Spirit they live.
You renew the face of the earth.

May the glory of the Lord
Endure forever, and may the Lord
Be glad in His work.
Pleasing to Him be my theme,
For I rejoice in the Lord.

~Joe Zsigray, "Lord, Send Out Your Spirit"

Psalm 106:1, 48: "Praise the LORD! / Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; / For His lovingkindness is everlasting...From everlasting even to everlasting."

Give thanks to the Lord, our God and King
His love endures forever
For He is good, He is above all things
His love endures forever
Sing praise, sing praise...
Forever, forever

~Chris Tomlin, "Forever"

Psalm 108:3-5:  "I will give thanks to You, O LORD, among the peoples, / And I will sing praises to You among the nations. / For Your lovingkindness is great above the heavens, / And Your truth reaches to the skies. / Be exalted, O God, above the heavens, / And Your glory above all the earth."

I will give thanks to Thee
O Lord, among the people
I will sing praises to Thee
Among the nations
For Thy steadfast love is great
Is great to the heavens
And Thy faithfulness
Thy faithfulness to the clouds

Be exalted, O God
Above the heavens
Let Thy glory be over all the earth

~Brent Chambers, "I Will Give Thanks to Thee"

Psalm 113:2, 4:  "Blessed be the name of the LORD...His glory is above the heavens."

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious Name

Psalm 118:24:  "This is the day which the LORD has made; / Let us rejoice and be glad in it."

This is the day that the Lord has made
We will rejoice and be glad in it.

Psalm 119:105, 112:  "Your word is a lamp to my feet / And a light to my path...Forever, even to the end."

Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path...
I will love You to the end

Psalm 121:1-2:  "I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; / From where shall my help come? / My help comes from the LORD, / Who made heaven and earth."

I lift my eyes up
Up to the mountains
Where does my help come from?
My help comes from You
Maker of heaven
Creator of the earth

Psalm 124:1-6, 8:  "'Had it not been the LORD who was on our side,' / Let Israel now say, / 'Had it not been the LORD who was on our side / When men rose up against us, / Then they would have swallowed us alive...Then the waters would have engulfed us; / The stream would have swept over our soul; / Then the raging waters would have swept over our soul.' / Blessed be the LORD, / Who has not given us to be torn by their teeth...Our help is in the name of the LORD, / Who made heaven and earth."

If the Lord had not been on our side
All our enemies would have swallowed us alive
If the Lord had not been on our side
All the raging waters
And the mighty flood
Would have swept over us
If the Lord
If the Lord
If the Lord had not been on our side

Blessed be the Lord
Blessed be the Lord Who has not given us up
The Lord Who is our help
Maker of heaven and earth
